April 26th, 2022

Presented by:

President, ICOA Board of Directors (CALIDAD – Ecuador)

The Inter-American Commission on Organic Agriculture (ICOA) is a technical body created in July 2008 by the Ministers of Agriculture through the Executive Committee of IICA, in order to contribute to the development of organic activity in the countries of the Americas and to facilitate the trade of their products. The ICOA is made up of the Competent Authorities for the Control of Organic Agriculture in the countries, who are the bodies responsible for the regulation and control of the activity and for guaranteeing the organic condition of the products. The ICOA is also made up of the Competent Authorities for the Promotion of Organic Production dedicated to the development and promotion of the organic sector in the member countries. This Commission is the first official regional body that works on the subject, with IICA being in charge of exercising its Executive Secretariat by mandate of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture, its highest governing body.

The objective of this technical talk is to present the work of the ICOA and to stimulate debate among meeting participants on the need for official information on the prices of organic products.
